While a large amount of folks prefer to get their sexy costumes online, maybe this year you rather create your own "home made" halloween costume instead. At Halloween Blog we say "That's the spirit! Building your own creepy costume is fun, creative and will often yield a costume that is cheaper than a store purchased version. Remember to start early, often times people try to create their own costume far too late. I often start the process by coming up with three "costume ideas" that I would enjoy each year. Then you can shop your local flea markets with those ideas in mind as you search for items that will work well for your costume.

Monster Museum

Monster Museum Enter, if you dare, the Monster Museum, whose halls are crowded with the likes of Count Dracula, Bigfoot, poltergeists, Medusa, mummies, zombies, werewolves, and The Blob. Nine gawking children, dressed in itchy-looking green tweed school uniforms, are led through the spider-strewn museum by a sinister, leering docent, who introduces each ghastly monster in verse: quote> Alas, King Kong, he sealed his fate
When he climbed up the Empire State
Oh, why'd he try this great escape?
'Cause they called him a monkey
And he was an ape!
While Marilyn Singer's rhymes are often forced, the humor and subtle edification compensates. (One myth debunked: Frankenstein is the name of the scientist, not the creature himself, who whines "No wonder I'm cranky-- / Stop calling me Frankie! / Won't somebody give me a name!"). Gris Grimly's weird illustrations are appropriately creepy--even the regular human beings (who systematically disappear throughout the tour) sport some grotesque body parts, including giant, gnarled hands. (Ages 4 to 7) --Emilie Coulter

Customer Review: VERY CLEVER WELL DONE !
A very enjoyable book! Our kids laughed along with us as we all learned about "The Monsters." I look forward to buying other books by Marilyn.

Customer Review: So engrossing!
Once I opened this book I could not put it down. Sure, it's a kid book, but adults will enjoy it too. I'm a big fan of Gris Grimly's artwork, and this book is a showcase. There is a lot of detail in his pictures, so you can just sit and study the pages for a while. The little poems are nice too, but for me, the artwork is what sold it. If you like monsters, you will love this book!
