The Mask of Atreus
The Mask of Atreus
An obscure museum's dead proprietor lies in a secret room surrounded by one of the world's most astonishing collections of Greek antiquities. Only a priceless Mycenaean death mask has been taken, along with the bones of a legendary hero thought to exist only in ancient myth. Looted by the Nazis, the treasures are still being sought by those whose dreams of glory remain undefeated.
The mask is an unparalleled discovery that will be a force for devastating retribution in the wrong hands. But by the time museum curator Deborah Miller learns the truth, it may be too late not only to save herself--but to reveal to the world the awesome secret she's uncovered.
Customer Review: Mask of Atreus: A great read!!
I am extremely mad at A.J Hartley and his book, "Mask of Atreus". I missed most of a nights sleep reading Mask. I was unable to stop until I'd devoured the last word of the last page.

Customer Review: I had high hopes for this book but could not finish it.
A. J. Hartley's 'The Mask of Atreus' had several factors really going for it that made me pick it up and keep reading: a strong female lead without the cop-out of sex appeal, an interesting historical plot with nice attention to detail, and a brisk, page-turning narrative that was quite enjoyable to read.
Unfortunately, the author's incessantly lame and self-indulgent excess of college-level identity politics was too distracting. From the very first pages of the main story Hartley trots out the tired stereotypes. He has the fat, slimy Christian businessman that sexually harasses the main character, who exasperatedly observes over and over that his business society is 'white men only'. Then he segues into the anti-academic southern cop whose sneering remarks would have been better delivered in a Twain satire. I am surprised he didn't say "We don't want none of this here book-larnin in these parts". Spattered in are ignorant and evil neo Nazis and white supremacists. Other pedestrian Gender and Race Studies 101 annoyances abound, from the painful references to 'Ugly American Tourism' and the main character's cosmopolitan heroics in avoiding them to her unceasing courageous curses of 'ignorant' and 'stupid' at the cartoonish neo-Nazis, the whole thing got so tedious that I had to stop reading. Even the setting of Atlanta, which was a refreshing location outside of the tired triumvirate of Los Angeles, New York, and Washington D.C, became nothing more than a convenient tool for parading out 'hate groups'. Where else would you go to put on a cat walk of ignorant bigots and simpering red necks but the southeast U.S.?
I am reminded mostly of the great Stone and Parker South Park episode where the school counselor gives his disinterested "drugs are bad, mmkay?" indoctrination to uncaring students. Nazis are bad, racism is bad, southerners are hicks, white businessmen are bad, erudite academics are the only intellectually valid members of our culture, mmkay? Yes we get it, thank you very much. One must begin to wonder how long people can be bludgeoned over the head with this sophomoric political correctness before developing a skin so thick that they have no sensitivity left at all.
This is an author with some promise, I sincerely hope he develops a style less reliant on pedestrian characterizations.
While All Hallows' Eve is the most popular time of year to order any type of costume today more and more folks (especially kids and teens) and enjoying costumes any time of year. While a large amount of people prefer to purchase their sexy costumes online, possibly this season you rather create your own "home-spun" halloween costume instead. At Halloween-Blog.com we say "That's the spirit! Styling you're own costume is fun, creative and will often yield a costume that is less expensive than a store purchased version. Remember to start early, often times people try to create their own costume far too late. I often start the process by coming up with three "costume ideas" that I would enjoy each year. Then you can shop your local flea markets with those ideas in mind as you search for items that will work well for your costume.
