The Teeth Of The Tiger (Jack Ryan Novels)

The Teeth Of The Tiger (Jack Ryan Novels) A man named Mohammed sits in a café in Vienna, about to propose a deal to a Colombian. Mohammed has a strong network of agents and sympathizers throughout Europe and the Middle East, and the Colombian has an equally strong drug network throughout America. What if they were to form an alliance, to combine all their assets and connections? The potential for profits would be enormous--and the potential for destruction unimaginable.

In a nondescript office building in suburban Maryland, the firm Hendley Associates does a profitable business in stocks, bonds, and international currencies, but its true mission is quite different: to identify and locate terrorist threats, and then deal with them, in whatever manner necessary. Established with the knowledge of President John Patrick Ryan, “the Campus” is always on the lookout for promising new talent, its recruiters scattered throughout the armed forces and government agencies--and three men are about to cross its radar.

The first is Dominic Caruso, a rookie FBI agent, barely a year out of Quantico, whose decisive actions resolve a particularly brutal kidnap/murder case. The second is Caruso’s brother, Brian, a Marine captain just back from his first combat action in Afghanistan, and already a man to watch. And the third is their cousin . . . a young man named Jack Ryan, Jr.

Jack was raised on intrigue. As his father moved through the ranks of the CIA and then into the White House, Jack received a life course in the world and the way it operates from agents, statesmen, analysts, Secret Service men, and black ops specialists such as John Clark and Ding Chavez. He wants to put it all to work now, but when he knocks on the front door of “the Campus,” he finds that nothing has prepared him for what he is about to encounter. For it is indeed a different world out there, and in here . . . and it is about to become far more dangerous.

Customer Review: Hopefully just a trailer.....
With this being the 784th review written on Amazon about this book there is probably not much I can say that has not been aready said (and in better fashion.) The only statements I would like to make are that 1. I must be the only person who actually thought this book was WORSE than Red Rabbit, mostly because this one seemed much more superficial and lacked that previous novels depth. The greatest shortcoming of this book is it does not have the character and plot development that we have come to expect from Tom Clancy. To criticize this as a poor novel is not really true-it is just that we have come to expect a MUCH higher standard from Tom. It is my hope that the reason for the publication of this book is that it is just a preview of a new and much better series of books from Mr. Clancy. Otherwise he is just going to blend in with the rest of the genre that he helped create. In all honesty I would only give this book 2 1/2 stars since it falls far short of its' potential.

Customer Review: Clancy should not have "lit up" his computer to write this one
Trust the negative reviews below-- this book isn't worth your time. In fact, I bought it at Goodwill for a buck and still feel like I overpaid. I hadn't read any of Clancy's stuff in years, and seeing this recent title thought I'd give it a shot. Unfortunately it's packed with terrible characterization, silly dialog, unrealistic plotting, and bady-- BADLY --needed a competent editor. Among the annoying things a real editor should have caught is Clancy's insistance in using the phrase "light up" when referring to turning on a computer. "Jack lit up his computer." "He lit up his laptop." "After lighting up his computer,..." I didn't count but this phrase must have been used 15-20 times at least. It reads much like someone using the word "cool" in the mid-1970s after hearing it on Happy Days. What was he thinking?

You can expect Clancy's standard jingoism here too (another reason not to buy his books unless at garage sales; he lays it on thick as usual but this time there's not even enough meat on the characters to make you care. The plot is entirely lacking in suspense, with every move telegraphed pages in advance, every action predictable, and every character a cardboard cutout.

Perfect example of Mr. Out-of-Touch Writer's work: at one point late in the novel he compares a particular model of Ferarri to Maureen O'Hara, as if reflecting the thoughts of his 20-something leads. What an idiot! Unless these guys are film historians (one admits briefly to liking Verdi, at least on CD) they aren't going to have a clue who she was-- and even if they did, would that be the first thing that pops into their minds when seeing a hot new car? "Oh my Enzo, that car is as hot as Maureen O'Hara, the long-dead actress of whom neither of us could have possibly ever heard."

Save your time and money-- go "light up" your computer and shop online for something else instead.

At Halloween-Blog.com we say "That's the spirit! Creating your own dramatic costume is fun, creative and will often yield a costume that is more cost effective than a store purchased version. Remember to start early, often times people try to create their own costume far too late. I often start the process by coming up with three "costume ideas" that I would enjoy each year. Then you can shop your local flea markets with those ideas in mind as you search for items that will work well for your costume.

Although All Hallows' Eve is the most popular time of year to order any kind of costume today more and more individuals (especially young kids) and enjoying costumes any time of year. One popular way to do just that is to throught costume parties. Costume parties are fun not only for the kids but for parents as well.
