I only have read the beginning part of this book and I really understood the details and what the message was. I also understand the feelings of a seven year old boy who doesn't know how to read and he is always getting hit by a man that is not even a part of the family and lives in his home.
If I was in that situation I would have the same feelings as Georgie in The Lottery Rose.
If I was very poor and I had no toys to play with I would be very happy to win a rose bush even though Georgie didn't really win it. Read this book to find out what happen to the rose bush and Georgie.

Alright, I'm not a user on Amazon.com and I am over 13 years old, but since I'm not a user I went on the kid's review. Now I have to say that in 8th grade I read this book and at that time I was really into the child abuse/drug abuse books. I like reading books about self-confliction because I want to be a guidance counselor or a social worker to help people in my community. I read this book and I was like wow, I am so lucky to have parents like I do because if I was ever treated like this I don't know what I'd do. This book just overwhelmed my heart and made me have a new perspective on like. I learned not to take my family for advantage because who knows what they could be like. I am lucky my parents aren't like that.
